About the course

This qualification is designed for learners who are working or would like to work in a coding role in a range of industries. It is ideal for those who want to consolidate their existing knowledge and learn practical skills which can be used to assist in seeking employment in coding or to progress into further study or an apprenticeship.

You can attend our training facility in the heart of Coventry or complete the course remotely from home, attendance 5 days a week for the duration of the course is essential.

You will study 5 modules when on this programme and undertake challenges and projects individually and as part of a team. You will network with other colleagues in the group and develop your interpersonal and problem-solving skills as well develop your coding knowledge.

At the Digital Skills Academy we are working with employers who are in need of individuals with coding knowledge to start the Software Development Technician Apprenticeship, this course could be the step into a new career for you.

On successful completion you will receive an NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Coding Practices.

Advanced Coding Bootcamp              06/10/2022 – 15 weeks

Training can be accessed remotely subject to having access to the right equipment and software. All you will need is an internet connection and access to a webcam.

Modules

The following modules will be studied during the course:

  • Coding Requirements and Planning
  • Understand Code Design
  • Implementation of Coding
  • Testing

Entry requirements

Ideally, you will have progressed from our Beginners and Intermediate Coding Bootcamp programmes. Industry knowledge and coding experience will also be considered, applicants may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 digital skills or information technology-related qualification, and a Level 2 mathematics qualification.

Equipment needed

Other than a notepad all equipment required for training will be supplied.

Eligibility

This course is free to those who are 19+ and don’t hold a level 3 qualification or to those living in the following areas Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell and Dudley.

If you are not eligible for this course then the cost is £941 alternatively, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan https://www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan

This Coding Bootcamp is free for residents within the following areas: Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell and Dudley.

Training can be accessed remotely subject to having access to the right equipment and software. All you will need is an internet connection and access to a webcam.

Modules

The following modules will be studied during the course:

  • Digital safety and security
  • Introduction to programming
  • Creating and publishing webpages
  • Digital content creation – text and image
  • Collaborative Working

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for you to join the Bootcamp, you need to be enthusiastic and committed in studying the whole camp for two weeks. You will receive comprehensive support before starting out to make sure the journey is right for you from our highly experienced coaches.

Other than a notepad all equipment required for training will be supplied.

Next steps

Once you have completed the Beginners Bootcamp you can than progress onto the Intermediate Bootcamp. This course is designed to give you a solid grounding in the key terms, principles and challenges of coding.

About the course

Our intensive Coding Bootcamp is stage two of your journey on our Software Development Pathway and is now available to study both onsite and virtually. It is designed to give you a solid grounding in the key terms, principles, and challenges of coding. This course will prepare you to move onto our Advanced Bootcamp or your first developer role.

Written by software engineers from Google, Microsoft and Amazon, it is a practical, hands-on experience that will challenge you to think like a developer, but by the end of it you will be ready to make a real impact as a trainee software engineer.

Focusing on JavaScript, this course provides a hands-on approach to problem-solving and software design.

About the course

This course is free only for residents within the following areas: Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell and Dudley.

CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ITF+) is an introduction to basic IT knowledge and skills and a pre-career starting point that helps individuals decide if a career in IT is right for them. It can also help organisations prepare non-technical teams for digital transformation.

Why is it different?

ITF+ is the only single certification that covers all areas of IT foundations making it ideal for non-technical professionals.

The CompTIA IT Fundamentals exam will certify that the successful candidate has the knowledge and skills required to identify and explain the basics of computing, IT infrastructure, application and software, software development, database fundamentals, and security.

In addition, candidates will have the ability to demonstrate their knowledge to:

– Install software
– Establish basic network connectivity
– Identify/prevent basic security risks
– Explain troubleshooting theory and preventative maintenance of devices

Modules

  • IT concepts and terminology – understanding the basics of computing, systems, data and troubleshooting
  • Applications and software – identifying common software applications and their purpose
  • Infrastructure – understanding the hardware components in a computer, installing additional devices such as printers and establishing a basic wireless network
  • Software development – understanding programming languages and their purpose
  • Database fundamentals – understanding database concepts, structures and purpose
  • Security – identifying and preventing basic security risks

Entry requirements

You do not need to hold any digital qualifications but a keen interest in the subject and a desire to work in the sector are key.

Other than a notepad all equipment required for training will be supplied.

Next steps

On successful completion of the CompTIA ITF+ exam certification, you will be able to progress onto the CompTIA A+, which many employers in the digital sector look for when recruiting staff.
